Create a service

What a service is, how to make one, and why it is never filled in itself.

2 minute read

A service is what you sell: "vehicle wrap", "brochure site", "product photography", "brand identity". It carries the questions asked for that kind of job.

The thing to understand first: a service is never filled in. No client ever answers one. It is a template. When you create an order, Kalepio copies its questions into that order, and the copy is what the client answers.

Which has a pleasant consequence: reworking a service never changes a brief already sent. You can improve it between two jobs without any risk of rewriting what a client is looking at.

Making one

From Services, click New service. A name is enough to start, and you land straight in the question builder.

Starting from nothing, this order works best:

  1. Write the questions you need every single time. Not the edge cases.
  2. Group them with section separators once the list goes past ten or so.
  3. Send yourself the link and fill it in on your phone. It is the only test that counts.

The three settings that matter

Setting What it does
Default The service pre-selected when you open an order. One per studio: naming a new one releases the old.
Orderable The service appears on your public page, where a client can order it themselves.
Catalogue summary The line a client reads before choosing. One sentence, not a paragraph.

The introduction and the layout

Every service carries a title and an introduction, shown at the top of the form. That is where you say in two sentences what you need and how long it will take.

The layout comes in two shapes:

  • One page: every question in a row. The client sees the scale of it immediately.
  • Stepped: a few questions at a time. Gentler for a long form, and much better on a phone.

Deleting a service

Orders already placed do not move. They carry their own copy of the questions and of your colours, so they go on opening and reading normally, years later.
