Connect your Stripe account

Getting paid by card from your client's page, what Kalepio never holds, and the commission taken.

3 minute read

To be paid by card from your client's tracking page, you connect a Stripe account.

It is your account, not ours

The most important thing on this page.

You connect your own Stripe account, in your name or your company's. Your clients' money goes straight onto it. It does not pass through Kalepio, and Kalepio holds it at no point.

In practice: you are the merchant, you receive Stripe's payouts on your own schedule, and if Kalepio disappeared tomorrow, your Stripe account and the money on it would not move.

We never hold your Stripe keys, and nobody at Kalepio can sign in to your account.

Connecting

From Studio settings → Getting paid, a button sends you to Stripe. You sign in to your existing account, or create one if you have none, and come back.

If you create the account at that moment, Stripe will ask you to verify your identity and give a bank account. Until that is done the account exists but takes no money.

The commission

Kalepio takes a commission on every card payment collected. The rate depends on your plan, and it goes down as you move up.

Two things worth knowing:

  • It is on top of Stripe's own fees, which are Stripe's and go to Stripe.
  • It is frozen when the payment link is created. A link made while you were on Free keeps the Free rate, even if you subscribe the next day. It cannot be changed afterwards: that is a technical limit of payment links rather than a choice.

On lines you tick off by hand, a transfer or a cheque, there is obviously no commission at all: Kalepio never sees that money.

What can interrupt card payments

Stripe can suspend card payments on an account, for instance if a verification document is missing. Kalepio notices and stops offering online payment rather than letting it fail in front of a client.

If that happens, the answer is on Stripe's side: open your Stripe dashboard and it will tell you what is missing.

Disconnecting

You can disconnect the account whenever you like. Payments already collected do not move: they are on your Stripe account and have never been anywhere else.

A payment link still in circulation goes on pointing at the account it was made on, because the link lives at Stripe. If you switch accounts, regenerate any links still outstanding.
